Gymnema extract helps maintain normal blood sugar levels. Gymnema (Gymnema sylvestre) is a creeping plant found in South India. Its leaves contain gymnemic acid, which prevents the absorption of sugar molecules taken in with food, while simultaneously blocking the taste receptors for sweets and thus reducing the desire to consume such foods. Gymnema also has immunostimulating properties.
Chromium is an element of fundamental importance for the metabolism of glucose, the accumulation of energy in cells and the production of insulin. Chromium picolinate is an easily absorbed form of chromium by the human body. It helps to maintain normal blood sugar levels and suppress the desire to consume sweet foods and drinks.

Gymnema sylvestre, native in India, is a woody, climbing shrub, whose roots, leaves and their actual active ingredients gymnemic acid and gurmarin have been used as a medicinal plant in India for over 2,000 years. Other ingredients found in this plant are tartaric acid, calcium oxalate, glucose, stigmasterol, betaine and choline. The plant's Hindu name is "gurmar", which means "sugar destroyer".
Gymnemic acid reduces the absorption of carbohydrates in the digestive tract, which means that the sugar in the diet is not completely absorbed, and blood sugar cannot rise and fall sharply. This prevents fatigue and other symptoms caused by fluctuations in blood sugar.
Human trials in healthy volunteers have shown that Gymnema sylvestre does not lower normal blood sugar or cause hypoglycaemia.
Gurmarin, found in Gymnema sylvestre, numbs the taste for sweets, thus decreasing the desire to eat foods containing high amounts of sugar. A clinical study shows that people using Gymnema sylvestre consumed less sweet drinks and nutrition compared to the control group.
