Physiological effects

• Potassium (K) is a macro mineral. The recommended daily dosage is 3100 mg for women and 3500 mg for men.
• Potassium is sodium’s counter actor in regulating the body’s fluid balance. Potassium balance is of the utmost importantfor the well-being of the heart, nervous system and muscles. Together with sodium potassium influences in osmotic balance between cells and the interstitial fluid by the Na+/K+-ATPase pump. Too low or high potassium levels are linked with the body’s disorders.
• Lack of potassium may cause tiredness, muscle weakness, swelling and constipation.
• From nutrition, potassium can be obtained from dairy and wheat products, vegetables, banana and citrus fruits. A plentiful supply of potassium balances problems caused by excessive use of nutrition high in sodium, such as high blood pressure and kidney overload.
• Excess use of salt burdens the heart and accumulates extra liquid in the body. Sodium’s effect on cardiovascular diseases is a well-acknowledged problem. Besides excess salt, excess weight, food containing plenty of fats as well as lack of exercise are some of the main risk factors in cardiovascular problems.
• A sufficient supply of potassium is essential especially during dieting, sports and for people doing physically hard work. A low supply of potassium may weaken performance and appear as weaker muscles and cramps. Increased sweating, for example, when doing sports increases the expulsion of potassium from the body.

1 tablet maximum 4 times per day. It is recommended to take tablets with meals. Not for children. Not for people with kidney failure or those using diuretics containing potassium or anti-arrhythmic medicine.
